I am strongly committed to teaching and mentoring the diverse students at UCR. As a first-generation scholar myself, I understand how college and its expectations can be daunting, even perplexing for some of our students. As a result, I deliberately incorporate an array of pedagogical techniques into my courses to help students learn while also challenging them to increase their aptitude and confidence.
I teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in both Sociology and in the School of Public Policy. In recognition of my teaching, I have been the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Faculty Mentor to Graduate Students Award from the Department of Sociology at UC Riverside. As a graduate student, I also received the 2008 Outstanding Teaching Award from the Department of Sociology at UC Irvine.
